New Delhi: Come Saturday and there is a strong possibility that you won’t be able to indulge in your favourite internet activities like shopping and surfing due to a hacking group—Anonymous—which has threatened to shut down the net.

“Operation Global Blackout 2012 looks to shut down the internet for a whole day tomorrow (Saturday) by disabling its core DNS servers, making websites inaccessible,” said Interpol’s Secretary General, Ronald K Noble.

Microsoft has unveiled the latest beta version of its desktop OS, Windows 8. This particular version is available for downloading and to be evaluation of by the general public. Google has launched the latest version of its Chrome web browser. Version 18 includes hardware-accelerated rendering for HTML5 canvas element on Windows as well asMac OS X. This helps reduce the load on the CPU, which is offloaded on to the GPU. Interestingly, this feature has been available for some time in the browser, but it was disabled by default, and the new version will keep it enabled. Twitter is currently facing an "unfollow" bug that is causing users to randomly unfollow other users without their consent. The microblogging company has admitted that the bug exists and that it is working on a fix. Meanwhile, affected users have been advised to visit its support page where the bug alert has been posted that says, "A person you've recently followed shows in your following tab, but appears with a follow icon so it looks like you're not following them, as shown in the image below. Visit their profile if you'd like to confirm you're following them". Thankfully, this is only a bug and not a virus, so the user's personal data is considerably safe.

The Hangouts option on Google + is one popular feature since it allows social media users to voice chat without actually logging into another account. With Hangout, Google also hopes to give Skype some competition, more importantly since it is now owned by rival firm Microsoft.

FB to stall valuation churn by disallowing secondary market trade

San Francisco: Social-networking site Facebook is halting the sale of its shares on secondary markets effective next week, aiming to reduce churn in its valuation which could complicate matters as it sets an IPO price, a person familiar with the situtation said on Wednesday.

The company, which is preparing for what could be Silicon Valley’s largest initial public offering, has asked firms that arrange trading of its privately held shares to stop, the person said.
