Cricket Desk: A new chapter in the history of Bangladesh cricket was opened today, as they shed the "minnows" tag and entered the Asia Cup final in style with a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

This is the first time, Bangladesh entered the final of a major tournament and they will cherish the day forever. They had beaten World Champions India in the last game and today they beat the World Cup runners-up Sri Lanka. This is the first time Sri Lanka did not reach the Asia Cup final.

With this result, India and Sri Lanka crashed out of the Asia Cup, while Bangladesh will take on Pakistan on Thursday in the dream finale. India were left disappointed, as Sri Lanka disappointed them twice in less than two weeks.

First, Sri Lanka beat Australia in the CB Series to prevent India from entering the final. At that time, the country played for a Australian win. Today, the cricket fans in India prayed for a Lankan victory, but that did not happen.

India beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup, but lost to Bangladesh in a close match. Both India and Bangladesh finished at 8 points each. Since Bangladesh had beaten India in the league stage, they went through. Sri Lanka lost all their matches in Asia Cup 2012.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss, elected to field first and restricted Sri Lanka to 232 in 49.5 overs. Kapugedera made 62. Thirimanne (48) and Tharanga (48) were the other contributors. For Bangladesh, Nazmul Hossain took three wickets. Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets each.

Rain stopped play for long after the Sri Lankan innings. The match was reduced to 40 overs and Bangladesh was given a victory target of 212. Despite some early losses, Bangladesh managed to pull off a sensational victory.

The Bangla Tigers reached 212/5 in 37.1 overs. Tamim Iqbal scored 59, while Shakib Al Hasan made 56. Nasir Hossain (36*) and Mahmudullah (32*) were the other top contributors. The duo added unbeaten 77 runs for the sixth wicket to see their team through.
